Paid Directory Submission

For the past couple of months, I have been submitting my site to free directories, submitting about 10 or 12 per day. Now after all this time, it takes time to type in all the details and try and workout what the code is, so they know you are human, all I have finished up with is about 60 links to my site. I know it takes time , but I would like to see more results.

I have not used any of the hundreds of companies that will submit your site to 100, 500 or 1000 directories for a fee. The reason I have not tried this service is that I was told that Google does not look kindly to this way of gaining links, but doing it manually will take me a very long time. Any info on this would help.
